What is Virgin hair?

Virgin hair simply put means that the hair is raw and unprocessed. The hair is in its natural form and is able to blend with your hair beautifully. It is received straight from a donor's head,has not been processed or chemically treated, can last up to 1 year with proper care, and comes in a natural brown hair color. The term “Remy” is used often by many people but what does that term mean? The term remy means that the hair is gathered all facing the same direction as it did when it was still attached to the head. This will insure that this will lay smooth and will not tangle very easily. It is important to note that just because a label says Remy does not ensure that the quality of the hair is great. There are many synthetic hair brands that use the term Remy yet the hair extensions are of poor quality, leading to tangling and matting. Here at Fab Locks we value our hair and work to ensure that all hair is not only Remy, but Virgin Remy.

Why doesn’t the hair come in multiple color shades?

Virgin hair comes in natural shades of black and dark brown and everything in between. Virgin hair is never sold by specific color codes. Since virgin hair is never colored and it is sold in its natural state, there may be slight color variation between bundles. However, this is a good thing. When hair is blended properly, it gives a more natural look and better depth of color, because in our own head, hair naturally has multiple shades of color and is never of one flat color. If you are not satisfied with natural colors, have a professional hair colorist color your hair to the desired color.

How do I achieve a natural look?

Most people wonder how celebrities and other fabulous women have such amazing hair. Fab Locks has the secret…a natural looking weave. To get the natural look, you need a talented hair stylist and healthy hair from Fab Locks. There are many factors that go into making a weave look perfect.

1. The right braid pattern- The braid pattern is the base for which your extensions will be applied. A good braid pattern will mean that the hair will flow and move naturally.
2. The right amount of hair- Having too much or too little hair installed can make a weave look unnatural and fake. Having too little hair installed will make the weave look thin and stringy. Having too much hair can make a person’s hair look like a wig, as if too much hair is growing from their head. The right amount of hair usually ranges from 8-10 oz for lengths 16 inches and shorter and 10-16 oz for lengths greater than 16 inches.
3. Having the right cut- Once the hair is installed the hair extensions should be properly layered or thinned using thinner shears or razor cut. Natural hair is never exactly one length. Layering the hair will make it look natural by taking some of the bulk out of the hair.
4. Proper hair care- Even the best quality hair will not look its best unless it’s taken care of properly. Brazilian and Peruvian hair should be brushed frequently. You need to wash your hair often so that oils and hair products don’t build up especially if you use a lot of products. Also, it should be conditioned properly since the hair is unprocessed human hair. Proper conditioning will keep the hair looking shiny and healthy and lasting for multiple installments.

What products should I use?

Look for products that are of quality. Sulfate free products are always best as they do not contain harsh chemicals that strip the hair of its nutrients. We typically use Organix products.
